About the conference

The second SCCS-Australia conference, workshop and field trip program was held at The University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia from 19 to 29 January 2015.

Who attended?

We had over 150 delegates attend, travelling from as far away as Nepal and Madagascar to experience this special type of conference. Our attendees were post-graduate students and early career researchers, and everyone made a presentation.

SCCS-Australia is open to post-graduate students from anywhere in the world, with a focus on students within the Asia-Pacific region. This includes PhD (within one year of completion), MSc and final year undergraduate research students. We also welcome participants not currently enrolled in a research degree but working at a similar level in a conservation organisation.

The program is designed for students pursuing studies within the field of conservation science, including (but not limited to) ecology, environmental science, resource management, geography, economics, and social sciences.

Scholarships

We offered 25 scholarships this year for students who met the selection criteria. Scholarships covered the full cost of the attendance (travel, accommodation and registration).

The experience

The combination of a conference, field trips and sightseeing in Brisbane and surrounds, training and workshops provided students with a unique and unforgettable experience that created lasting networks and helped to launch their careers in conservation science.
